Many women also have colon cancer
Regarding the cancer that is most common in women, first of all, isn’t it breast cancer we first think of?
Indeed, the number of cases (the number newly diagnosed as cancer) that is the most common in women is breast cancer.
However, breast cancer is not the most common terminal cancer.
The most common in women is colorectal cancer.
The combined total of colorectal cancer fatalities in men and women is second only to lung cancer.
And the number of total cases is also the second most for both males and females, and the largest number for cause of death for men and women is colon cancer.
In this respect, colon cancer is one of the cancers that is particularly common among cancer.
The 5-year survival rate of stage 1 is over 90%, and in stage 2, it is over 80%.
If it is found early, it is also a cancer with a high probability of being cured.
However, in the early stage of colorectal cancer, there are few subjective symptoms.
For early detection, receiving a medical examination before symptoms appear is effective.
There are two types of colon cancer screening.
One is the “fecal occult blood test”.
It is an examination to check whether blood that cannot be seen by the naked eye is present in the feces.
It has been reported that in men who underwent the fecal occult blood test, the mortality rate
drops by 60% to 80%, and progressive cancer decreases by approximately 50%.
The other is a colonoscopy, which is the use of a colon camera.
Because we can look directly into the large intestine, we can find cancers and polyps with a higher probability.
Also, when a cancer or polyp is found by endoscopic examination, it is also possible to perform immediate ablation treatment.
Men and women over the age of 40 are encouraged to visit once a year.
On the second floor of Medical Prime Takanawa at “Shinagawa Gastroenterological Endoscopic Clinic“, we carry out diagnostic examinations including fecal occult blood tests and colonoscopies.
We perform medical treatment on Saturdays and Sundays, so even those who are “busy on weekdays” can be seen by us.
